Charity GrantsThere are a number of marine charities who provide grants to individuals. The Seamen's Hospital Society Merchant seafarers, fishermen and anybody who earns their living from the sea, including deep sea fishermen and their dependants. Applicants must be seafarers with long service except where accident or illness interrupted intended long-term service. The Shipwrecked Fishermen & Mariners' Royal Benevolent Society Fishermen, merchant seamen, their widows and dependants, who are on a low income, especially those who are over 60, sick or disabled. Priority is given to widows with young children. There is a minimum sea service of eight years (15 for recurrent grants). No grants are given towards funeral expenses. All grants are discretionary. NUMAST Welfare Funds Seafarers, former seafarers and their dependants. Applicants should normally be over 50 but exceptions are made, for example, in cases of ill-health. Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen Commercial fishermen, including retired fishermen, and their wives and widows who are experiencing unforeseen tragedy or hardship. |
